World Everest Day

55 years ago, on 29 May 1953, two people stood on top of the highest peak in the world – Mt. Everest – for the first time. Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa reached the summit of Mt. Everest 55 years ago today to make a history in mountaineering. They became the first people to reach the summit of the Everest.

Today, May 29, 2018, is the 55th anniversary of summiting of the Mt. Everest. The day has a significant importance in the mountain tourism of Nepal. The door to the mountains of Nepal actually opened after the successful ascent of Everest. The conquest of Everest drew the attention of the world towards Nepal and people started travelling to the country for adventure tourism. Trekking and climbing became synonymous to Nepal that still is a major share-holder of Nepali tourism industry.

Nepal is celebrating the day to commemorate the historic day and the legendary climbers – Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. Different programs have been organized in Kathmandu and in the Everest region to mark the day with respect. As an important date in Nepali mountaineering and mountain adventure tourism industry, celebration of the day is an absolute necessity. The development of tourism in Nepal actually started to be noticed only after the Everest ascent. Thousands of people started travelling to Nepal only because of their awareness that Mt. Everest – the highest peak in the world – is in Nepal.

The mountaineering and adventure tourism industry in Nepal now attracts hundreds of thousands adventurers every year from around the world. After the Everest conquest, hundreds of thousands of people have trekked to the Everest region and reached its base camp on the popular Everest Base Camp Trek. Thousands of people have successfully made it to the top of the highest mountain in the world. The Everest region trek is one of the most sought after trekking regions in the world topping the list in Nepal. Along with the Everest, other regions also started opening up for the travellers from around the world. In course of time Nepal gained the popularity in the world as the trekking paradise. The mountain peaks in the northern part of the country became the major attractions and reasons for the people to travel to Nepal.

Today, Nepal is a lot more than the mountains to the travellers. People have now understood that Nepal has a lot more than mountains to offer to travellers. The diversity in geography, ethnicity, and culture offers travellers incredibly holiday experience. The sole credit of such exposure of Nepal in the international scenario is only because of the Everest ascent in 1953. The successful ascent of Everest was the main turning point in the Nepali tourism industry. Adventure tourism boomed and people took Nepal to be synonymous to the mountains and adventure trekking and mountaineering.

We, at Hiking Adventure Treks, feel proud to remember the day when the first humans stepped on top of Everest 55 years back. We are also happy to be in the path that the ascent opened to many adventurers. Everest Expedition trip has now become a dream and daring adventure to many climbers.
