Overview

Upper Mustang Trek

Upper Mustang Trek offers spectacular trekking experience in the remote trans-Himalaya Mountain region of Nepal. The 17 days begins in Kathmandu with tour of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Then we drive to Pokhara or fly to Jomsom the next day and the trek begin trekking.

Upper Mustang is also known as the Last forbidden Kingdom because it wasn’t until the 1990s that tourists were allowed to enter the region . While trekking in the Upper Mustang region of Nepal, We can admire the uniqueness of tree-less landscape, rocky trails and views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Other Himalayas. What makes Upper Mustang special is not only its people and its well-preserved landscape but also its natural beauty which makes way to vast fields with barren hillsides and sights of snowy peaks such as Annapurna, Nilgiri, and Tilicho. Lo-Manthang is the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Lo. Also known as ‘The Walled City’, this place is home to Tibetan Buddhists who seem to be living in an untouched civilization with their traditions and culture still serving as an integral part of their daily life.

Upper Mustang Trek will start at the capital city of the country, Kathmandu where you will visit prominent landmarks and cultural heritages such as Boudhanath and Pashupatinath before moving on to Pokhara. From Pokhara, you will get the first glimpse of mountains with Annapurna and Machhapuchhre crowns the skyline of the city. You will trek through villages like Kagbeni and Chele- whose trail will take you through fields of buckwheat, barley and dense orchards of apple, the latter of which is considered to be a famous export of the region. As you trek on to Charang, you will glimpse the culture of the region through Mani walls, small Chorten and colorful prayer flags wrapped around them. Throughout your journey, you will catch glimpses of beautiful peaks like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Tilicho, Tukuche, and Nilgiri.

Hiking Adventure has brought you Upper Mustang Trek with an itinerary that covers most of the prominent villages and trekking points of Upper Mustang. We aim to give you an experience of this region through its culture and nature. You will take back memories of trekking through sandy, almost desert-like regions with great barren hills surrounding you and glimpses of various mountain peaks as well as the great grey red cliffs of Drakmar. Hiking Adventure hopes to give you an experience of a lifetime, trekking through the fields of Upper Mustang in the beautiful country of Nepal, which will make you closer to its people and culture.
