Mustang Tiji Festival Trek , native to the ancient capital of Lo-Manthang is celebrated during the arrival of spring. A number of lore and stories is connected to this festival, including the story of Dorje Jono, considered to be an incarnation of Buddha, has to defeat his demon father to preserve his city. The festivities take place in the middle of the city courtyard where a large Thangkha of Buddha is hung on one of the walls while monks dressed in colorful attire sing for dancers, also dressed in colorful attire and masks, each depicting a character of the story.
